This is a rant so to all those who might get offended or look at Albania through rose tinted glasses you have been warned.
Most visitors to Albania always comment on how hospitable and friendly the people are here, and they would be right in making that assertion based on their experiences. Well I beg to differ about these observations because I believe them to be somewhat biased.
Please don’t get me wrong I am not saying that all Albanian people are unfriendly and inhospitable, all I am saying is that it in my humble opinion Albanians are not as friendly as described by most visitors, and I will explain myself.
You see Albanians are predominantly white with a minority of Roma people who are of a darker complexion. Most foreigners who live in Albania are here for work or they are married to someone who is working here. The majority of those coming to work and live here are also white, and usually from western countries within the EU or from the US. As a result the feedback you get from visitors to Albania mainly comes from these people.
Now my question to you is, have you ever considered what it is like to be a black/brown/Asian foreigner in Albania?
I am not of white European origin but I blend in pretty well MOST of the time, but I recently had two friends from home coming to visit me for two weeks because they had seen photos of the beaches here and I told them who nice and beautiful the country is. One of my friends is black while the other is of Asian background, and let me tell you, walking in the street and going out with them was a new experience for me here in Albania. The rudeness and the utter ignorance of the people makes my blood boil, and I think what made it worse was the fact that I understand some Albanian.
When we walked the streets people just stared at us as if we were some creatures that had just landed from Mars, and when we walked into cafes or restaurants heads would turn. People would stop conversation just to look at us, and I don’t mean take a quick look, no, they gaze into our eyes until it gets very uncomfortable.
The thing that made it worse was that I understand a bit of Albanian, so I could not avoid hearing ‘zezak’, ‘majmun’ or ‘kinez’ almost everywhere we went, let alone the ‘ching chang chong’ and monkey noises some youths were saying while we walked past them in the streets.
There is one observation I made when my friends were here, and that is most of this came from the young (below 40) generation, which would rule out ignorance because this generation has seen American films, they listen to rap music, they like Thierry Henry and Beyonce. So apart from pure racism I cannot find a reason for such behaviour. The older generation on the other hand was more pleasant and just took one look at the two aliens walking with me and turned away.
I ask all ex-pats reading this, have you walked in the streets here with a non-white person? Or maybe you are not white, how do you find walking in the streets of Tirana? And if you are an Albanian reading this, please tell me if I am being harsh?
I know many of you will say ‘well things were just as bad in our countries back in the 60s, 70’s or 80’s (some are till this day), I would agree, but we were not being described as hospitable and friendly, we were rightly being called Right-wing, racists, and xenophobic.
So there you have it, next time when I hear an American/British/French/German/Scandinavian white person tell me that Albanians are friendly and hospitable, my response would be: ‘of course they are, you are the right colour, just thank God you are white’.
By the way, my friends liked Albania, but they will not come back here soon.

You make a very good point and one that is rarely discussed in Albania. I’ve had several black female friends in Tirana and they could NOT walk alone on the streets- even in broad daylight without being aggressively terrorised by males of all ages. Cat calls, whistles, “hey baby” and blatant propositioning is apparently normal (and acceptable) behaviour. Albanian men obviously believe that all black women are hookers. It’s definitely NOT warm and hospitable behaviour!! There’s a lot of room for improvement.

Yes, many Albanians are racist, it’s the effect of being isolated. Many people are racist, but political correctness has taught most to keep their racist thoughts to themselves. In the US you’ve got people going to absurd lengths. Albanians haven’t learned that. Also, if they think you don’t understand them, they feel more free, but it would be true elsewhere.
You don’t think the Chinese are racist towards whites? Have you learned Chinese and walked in a Chinese city?
I remember Italian TV stations would have black people (usually portrayed to be from Africa) be the butt of jokes.
I can imagine if you walked in certain exclusive white or black neighborhoods in the US you’d hear some pretty bad name calling (and in that case they’d know you’ll understand them, imagine if they thought you couldn’t).
Not really excusing the behavior, it just seems weird that you’d be so surprised and appalled. It happens everywhere. In the US it’s been shut up most recently in most places, but go back even just 30 years.

P.S. You’ve generalized an entire nation based on a few people you ran across, I wonder what the definition of racism is? Racism may also be called pattern matching. The human brain is built to pattern match. You’ve just run across a pattern and generalized upon it. Does it make you a racist?

I totally agree with you.I remember last year I had to sit down with a guy for 3 hours and explain to him that the color is the last thing we should care about.As you said most of the foreigners who visit Albania are “white” and not to forget that only 20 % of albanians who live there had the chance to visit another country .So I must say that most of them are not so open-minded.The main problem is with the chinese community in Albania. Unfortunately I have seen people swearing at them just because they are different.I hope and I really wish the situation will fix soon.The government has to work on this more,but ehhh the government….

AC, I think you have missed the point, I am not saying that only Albanians are racist, I am just arguing against the notion that they are friendly and hospitable to ALL foreigners.
Secondly, neither Italians or Chinese people are generally said to be friendly and hospitable, in fact a lot is said about them being the opposite of that. And the same goes for the US, how many visitors to the US come out and say ‘it is a hospitable country full of friendly people’? There is nothing to argue here.
And I am not making a generalisation about the whole nation, like I mentioned the elder generation who were more oppressed under communism were better and in fact had fond memories of working with Chinese people many years ago.
Finally, I believe everyone has an element of racism in them, and that includes me, but those who are brought up well and have manners do not act upon these animallistic instincts.

Small community always will be under racisem.Racisem is every where in China,India,too…if albanian will be in India or China they will be bullied.So, don`t blame allbanian as a spesiall case of rasisem..Albanian are very hospital people! But is tru not allways!Depends of course!

I’m Albanian, born and grew up in Albania and have lived in the US for nearly 20 years. Many years ago, I was married to a black girl. If you think Albanians are racist, you have no idea how racist the blacks are towards the white people. My inlaws were both college educated and professional and most of the time they were OK, although not nearly as warm as my family was towards her. As for the rest of her family, brothers, cousins etc, it varied from the silent treatment that makes you feel transparent – nobody sees you or hears what sounds come out of your mouth – to giggling behind my back and jokes in pidgin english – which I didn’t understand initially – about “the cracker”. Which it could’ve only been me! And this was a family that was generally well to do, with money, businesses, good govt jobs etc, that one would have thought were well integrated and the least possibly to be racist.
Her grandmother however still lived in a not so nice area in north Philly. She was close to her grandmother – was raised by her – and we visited her often. If her family was cold but at least polite in appearance, black people in that neighborhood were outright rude and aggressive. We’ve had people call and yell on us from their porches, throw things at us, groups of teens surround us and push and shove me, and try to provoke me into fights, and guys actually hanging out of their car windows shouting obscenities. It became so ridiculous, that I stopped going over to her grandmother. Our marriage lasted only for about a year, and I just couldn’t take that kind of environment any longer. And from that time, multi-shmulti culturalism, I respect everyones rights and all that, but for when it matters, I’d rather stick to my own. And that’s how most people deal with it, I guess. Consensual segregation, I would call it.
And if this is how it is in a big and cosmopolitan city like Philadelphia, where blacks are well emancipated – our last mayor and the current one, and a great deal of the city’s council members and politicians, chief of police etc., are black – and have achieved a great deal of accomplishments as athletes, artists, business and professional people etc, etc. I can only imagine to what a degree the black racism must be in some small and impoverished African country – the equivalent of Albania – where people are not used to seeing a white man just simply walking down the street.
So yeah, you might not like it, but you have to put things into perspective.

Sorry to hear about your experience in Albania, it sounds really aweful. I think however that you are being a little harsh, especially after saying that you had already lived and worked in Albania. In other words you should have known better…
I am an Albanian myself, from the South, and it pains me to say that while we are at least as far as I know very hospitable people we have a long way to become fully civilized and educated. Let me explain what I mean:
Staring is not a unique experience directed to people of a different color, Albanians stare a lot, anyone who is different for long periods of time nonstop. My boyfriend would often say ‘Take a picture, it lasts longer”
As for name calling, again, I am sorry that your friends had to experience that. But in Vlora where I went to highschool 10 years ago (now it is considerably better) if a girl walked down the street she would hear name callings such as ‘Animal, Beast, Cow, I am going to … you, etc’. This was not an isolated incident but rather the norm.
My point is that Albania is far from civilized and people who travel there should be aware of this very fact. We however, would not harm anyone, and I also believe that people would generally behave ok on a personal basis.
To give you a final example, a german guy at the beach last year (2007) was harassed because his body was covered full of tattoos. The majority of people would stare all day long, but these two guys actually forced him to leave the restaurant where him and his Albanian girlfriend were having dinner.
My point is: what did you expect?
Now lets clarify one things, the majority of Albanians would not make monkey sounds in the street. All of them would stare, but not just your friends, anyone different actually. It could just be a guy wearing a weird shirt.

Albanian hospitality as a social construct comes from another period where the communities were somehow isolated and before any modern ideology, or life style if you will, was introduced to Albanian society. More than anything else it is a myth, and also a taboo subject, that does not correspond to the “modern” reality of Albania. It is very selectively applied. As you pointed out yourself is the young generation expressing that down ignorant type of behavior. The problem in our hands is that the combination of myths and ignorance is not a recipe for solutions but for stubbornness.

racism is everywhere! Its not only just the color, but also anything that is OUT OF THE NORM for them. The first time I went to Albania, I got stares also, but not for my color, but my size. I was a larger woman the first time I went to Albania and I got stares, comments, all that, but it didnt bother me! I was there to have fun with my husband, which we did. But it is EVERYWHERE…….racism. Even in this small town I live in, here in Missouri. Which is about half black and half white. Racism is on both sides! I consider racism ignorance and go on about my day. If someone has something to say about someone on the outside before getting to know them on the inside, that is complete ignorance.
So here is my question………if the United States votes in a black man as president, do you think it will change the racist views of all people who are racist? If you are saying that “all albanians” are racist, then how are they going to feel if a black president comes to Albania for a visit??

I agree with you that racism is everywhere, however it is not expressed everywhere, and that is just down do good manners. Again, I have to repeat that the issues of racism in countries like the US are very well documented and there is history behind it. That is not the case here in Albania.
Generally around the world people are either racist due to ignorance, and that can be helped and improved, the others are absolute racists in their beliefs and politics.
If the American nation does vote for a black President I think it will send a good message across the globe and will open the eyes of ignorant people around the world, however it will not have a positive effect on the absolute racist who may even use a black president to get more support for their cause.

I myself refuse to be a racist or homophobic because simply im not iggnorant. its not the way god made me but i wasnt surrprised by your experience. but i thank you for tellings us. I somehow agree with you in your last comment “insidealbania”. It is one thing being racist and another one lacking good manners. I always say, “Keep all what you think for yourself, you may even be racist, but never let that person notices it”. Ok, I agree that we Albanians like to stare, a lot in fact, me too sometimes , I also think we are too much curious as people, a lil’ bit fanatic maybe, but sometimes all that is done unintentionally, just the way it is. So, you just have to ignore those stares and keep walking. We have not been used seeing or meeting black people, so it would do us good to have some friends around and know them better. This would definitely help us be less racist and understand that people may be hurt from our looks. Anyway, I must admit, this is not news only in Albania.

It is a well known fact that 100% without a doubt all countries in this world are racist, the only diffence is that in some countries is more prominent. But this is a totally seperate issue all together.
You are kinda missing the point and I must agree with Ujku i Zi, specifically in Albania due to a long 50 year isolation, the people that live there have less knowledge about the outside world and naturally they would be hostile to other races (and i am not just talking about black people here). Given time I am sure that Albania will learn to accept other cultures and races.
Albania is a very hospitable country without a shadow of a doubt and because of some unpleasant experiences of individuals it doesn’t make it a bad place to visit or even perhaps live there.
I accept that there is a lot of work to be done in educating the people there about other races and cultures but this has got to be done at the right time. Presently I think Albania has more pressing issues such as, bettering the economical situation of the country, jobs etc. not to say racims is a issue that should be pushed asside.

Yes, we know, we are not isolated. We know what the outside world looks like. Not being racist means having no identity, being dumb. Non-whities can live out of Albania, but NEVER in Albania. We can have good “foreign” relations, but Albania will always be Albanian. That’s it. No superficallity of the west here. At least we are being honest. No double standards. I respect non-whites in their own country but to tell you the truth since i was a kid i find it disgusting for them to come to Albania. I also find disgusting for non-whites to speak albanian. My instincts tell me that is not good for me to be aorund, associate myself with these other races. Albanians owe nothing to non-whites. Thus, you have no right to complain to us about racism in Albania. It’s not liek in greece, yugoslavia or russia, where gangs will beat you up. Here we tell it to your face upfront that we don’t really like you racially. Look, non whites occupy all continents, plus in the last 20 years have “invaded” all major white western coutries, so what the F do they want in Albania now? If you were from a white cultural background, you would know that in the rules of hospitality the guest has duties too, one of them not to overstay his welcome. When in Albania, you’ll do everything Albanians find acceptable and play to our rules in our home! Just know that up there in our heads in our identity Albanian is linked very closely to “white” and only white. Gypsies are gipsies, they are not “albanian gipsies”, albanians=white, and there has never been ever and will never be a “black/mulato/mix/asian” albanian. It’s a “RACIAL RIGHT”! I have the right to protect myself, my blood, my family, my lineage, my country! Haven’t you read before coming to Albania how we valued family in Albania? What, why? We have faought for millenia to rpotect all this and now you think you have the right to tell me what to do with my blood? You’re disrespectful! You even dared to bring balck and asian people here?! You are so dumb, seriously…. Racism (i.e. smartness) is not only balck vs white. Even Indians, i’ve heard, like to marry within their tribes and want to preserve themselves. Remember the opening line in the first book written in Albanian goes like this “WE, THE LOVERS OF OUR WORLD”.
I told you, read the Canon of Leke Dukagjini and the duties of the host and the guest and behave like a proper guest has to! Otherwise it’s rude and we have all the right to kick your impolite arse out!

you make a really good point!! I was born and raised in Albania and I admit that what you say is very true. I hope that discussions like this are going to make albanian people aware that they are being racist and that’s totally wrong . They should get over all of these issues they have. I know that it’s hard to change their mentality. I would like to believe that once they get more exposed to different cultures they might become more open minded and ready to accept differences. Now that I live outside albania I am more aware of the fact that albanians can be racist. When I was living there I never even thought about it. Now I understand that Albanians can be very cruel, insensitive and disrespectful by judging people because of their race, religion, nationality, skin color ..etc. It’s really makes me mad when I think about it. How can they be so superficial ??Anyway not all albanians are so ignorant. I hope you will meet some of these cool-open minded albanians that can look beyond skin color!

I am albanian, living and working in albania. I wanted to say something about albanians pride, because I read Mina’s comment and the insidealbania’s after that. If albanians are talking with other albanians about themselves, you have no idea how much we criticize our actions, our education and everything else, but if any other criticize us our self defense mechanism starts up and is ready to fight for our “albanian identity”. It’s due to social and psychological issues for centuries of war to identify ourselves as a country and to fight assimilation from our historical enemies and etc etc. This discussion maybe a case for a psychologist because Mina posting made you insidealbania show some of the real thoughts you have about albanians, you had the right to get angry with Mina, I got too (she would be considered an extremist even on the most racist countries). But you used her opinion to hold your thesis about albanians hospitality (very wrong) and as you opened this discussion with an object not to friendly to albanian culture, you should have expected this reactions and not get shocked (by only one racist posting). I think that it takes a proffessional in albanian culture to talk about this issue. My opinion is that albanians are not racist, most of them lack of the norms of the western cultures, but we are very hot-blooded as a race, as are other countries in mediterranian see especially in balcans when it really boils up. And from this character we have our good and bad behaviors like extremely warm to those we want to express affection and really hostile to those that touch our feelings. So that good hypocrisy wanted from the good manners is really hard to hold in our temper.

how can you universalize your experience to judge an entire culture?
it IS extremely rare to see people of a different ethnicity in albania. i have found myself staring several time despite myself!!! this is coming from a socially active liberal who grew up between albania and the states, and exists in a very ethnically diverse environment.
the word “zezak” is not inherently offensive!
As for “kinez”; residents in my New York City neighborhood ask me about my “chinese” roommates , when in fact they are Japanese. When I point this out, the response is usually something like “what’s the difference”? i really think the entire western world is lacking in understanding of east asia.
and as far as “majmun” goes; in its negative connotation it applies to all “unattractive” people. it is applied freely when people are obviously non-albanian, but they can be of ANY color. anywhosle, is “monkey” in this context rude? yes! is it racist? not necessarily. i also don’t think that anyone would have used the word if they knew that you could understand ( no one within the culturally accepted levels of politeness in any case).
anyway, my point is not that albanians cannot be racist: i’m sure plenty of them are! but it is nothing like american racism (see mina) and it is far from having infested the entire county.

I do not know why you requesting answers to your opinion though…
I would say, before you come to conclusion about a country ,on how racist or hospitable they are, you really need to have a great look at the world and how the rest of the world acts in such situations.
I lived in US for 10 years,lived in Europe, traveled the world, Russia, Italy, Egypt ,Turkey Canada, etc etc etc… and i still need to learn from this places where i went before i make such statement. I find it somewhat childish to come to such conclusion and very close minded opinion. I read your overall opinion about Albania and ..i am not a writer nor a critic but you are not cut for this kind of job or whatever you may call it. You judge one country from your tourist point of view based on a couple of personal experiences??!!
I have color people visiting me in Albania… and i had such situation too with them but it was into an area where even me, or my father or the police would hear such comments…yet the comments are not based on hate…those comments are just as any thug would make in any situation. Thugs are anywhere in the world…maybe you got a few of them in your area where you live in whatever country.
If you were in a nice area of town of Albania, it still not right for you to judge that way…because as you said it Albania and every city…like Tirana..its very small and everyone lives in one area and close to one another…which means , the rich , the poor, teachers, successful business people, actors, politicians and young thugs as well as….. therefore you run into some thugs that made those comments…so what…don’t be such ”crybaby” and blame a whole country. Is it your first time you go away from home?

In US , a couple of guys beat up my brother right in the middle of the city…they stole his freaking 40$ watch and left a way. I bet if you had that experience you would not be such ”crybaby” if that would have happened to you. And guess what? do i think color people or Americans are rude???? Even though i had my car broken in US as they stole once my radio, another time xmass gifts another time some skin heads or punks if i can call them so… broke into my house and stole whatever they could. I read also a comment where a couple of black girls were target of rude flirtations on the street. Are you people for real??? First of all …, those guys that flirted with those 2 color girls do the same freaking thing with any kind of girl they see because they are street boys and some guys in Albania are rude on their kind. However…let me remind you…those street boys of whatever country everyone who is not Albanian have around their neighborhood. People that visit Albania do not know the mentality of Albania because its new to them. If a guy or 5 guys or 10 guys are rude to someone , a foreigner white person or a color person or whatever race …does not mean Albania its un hospitable. Albania its the only country in the world where three religions live together in harmony. Try to do that in US…or anywhere in the world and lets talk racism….ironical in the name of GOD people would declare war to each other from their belief differences… A Muslim girl can marry a Christian man with no problems. I love Albania for this fact. It is such an open minded fact.
You need to carefully study the history of Albania and try to see where this country have gone through. You will than definitely believe that we are one of the most hospitable countries out there. Find me an historian that would prove me wrong on this.
In America,there are Latin mafia families of 100,000 members each and they shoot and kill and run their dirty business in daily basis. Do some research on Latin mafia in google if you are not from US and you will know what i am trying to express. As well, try to ask an American citizen what their beliefs are for Latin community. They speak the best for them and you know why??….because majority of millions of people living in US have gone there and live with honor. America do not call them mafia people, or drug dealers or thugs….
I hope you got the point. If i come to visit your country and i experience the same things as your friends did here i would say what a bad luck i had in the streets of that country in this vacation…i would not say what you did.
A friend of mine from Mexico , he studies in STANFORD University in California on becoming professor of Eastern European history teacher and he rented and lived next to my other house for two years in Albania.
He was a dark looking guy.

Not that i know off…but maybe he did experience a stare or a stupid comment during his stay that he never mentioned to me…however when he left and said goodbye to my family he cried and had gifts for all my family members and left letters for them all written in Albanian. Maybe if you read this letter you would than try to really go a little deeper to your conclusion.
Albania suffered enough from the Communist system.
I see what Albania needs to change. There are lots to be done in this country but do not compare Albania with the rest. It cannot be compared.
Tell me a country that did not experience the same ..its unfortunate Albania its experiencing this transition the last one in the region. There is so much to be done here, yet its not time to judge but maybe try to point finger only to the fat cats and fight them. People are people and they can do only so much.
I see Albania in 20 years a shinning country in Europe and it would be a place where people would love to relocate, visit, do business etc. These fat cats will than be long gone….and guess what ….maybe you will still experience a couple of thugs trying to talk down on you or your friends…. hey.., what can you say, this world has weired people too…its your luck you experienced it here..Its not Albania and that i promise.

Hey, I am not Albanian but I hav some Albanian friends and Ive been to different regions containing Albanians, so be Albania, Kosovo, Macedonia and MonteNegro and all I have to say is that there is no warmer and more hospitable people. You have misunderstood the racism, they didnt look at you because they felt they disliked you or hated you (which would make them racist) they looked at you because of curiosity. It is not everyday a black man suddenly walks down a Tirana road. And the namecalling from the kids is a show-off to the other kids, (like heey look at me Im being funny) but ignorance doesnt let that kid know that that is rude, ignorance, because hes never had the need to know about colored communities in a white isolated society.
There are 2 types of racists, hate racists which hates other races and ignorant racist meaning he dont hate noone but finds it so interesting to see another race that he must express himself ignorantly to others.
Hate racism occurs mostly in well developed areas as US and Western Europe because everyone are aware of how colored people look. The political correctnes has not set in in Albania and people dont feel they have to be indirect towards other races. Remember we are all racist, but we either supress our racial prejudgements or set them free.

Greeks and italians are viciously racist to people simply that are not greek and italian, especially to albanians. though it is not just albania that may have left u with this impression. have u traveled to romania, hungary, slovenia, croatia, even in parts of northern europe, etc? u will get a lot more stares there then just in albania. And also don’t forget about advanced countries like the U.S.A, where u will find abundant racism. i have a lot more to say, but not so much time….so i just wan to say that albania is not racist and it is very hospitable.

Albanians are racist, but then who isn’t? My guess is that as time goes by, and we meet blacks and other non-whites (like the mongrel Serbs
) things will get better. I have to agree with Hans, many Albanians still have not seen a black person. I know that until 1990’s probably 99% hadn’t seen one. Maybe the stereotypes of African ways are still there but as time goes by they will disappear. For example one would think that we’re better than Omaba or Condi Rice, the same way many Americans may hate a (‘typical’) back person, but vote for and embrace the ones that achieve.
In short, by custom, each guest must be treated the same, but then you’re talking about the MTV generation, combined with the teenage idiocy, and looks do not necessarily mean racism. Albanians are very curious, and in a sense wary of foreigners. That much is rooted in our psyche.

Mina’s views are crudely expressed, however they do contain a grain of truth which is: racism (just like albanian hospitality) is an artificial construct. Even in the world’s capital of political correctness, Canada, most people arent even offended by racism (unless they’re being interviewed about it). Why wouldnt you stare at someone different when you’ve never had a chance to travel outside your country to judge for yourself whether that ‘difference’ that you see really makes a difference? Nothing racist about Albanian racism. Just plain normal.

I am from US and i am married to an Albanian citizen since 2007.
People in Albania have been nice to me most of the time. There have been times where people act a certain way like you and your friends have experienced but nothing to bother me. In US these acts from certain people are quite present at all times. They do not bother me. Actually Albanians are very very hospitable to me, i noticed that from the very first day i came here
It s quite surprising to see someone so mad and take his anger on a page. If you don’t like Albania , there is always a choice to be made. Is the same as i would come to visit your house and speak about how rude you are as a person because i just happened to believe so. I would not do that, i would walk a way if i did not like your company.
I think you are just an angry person and Albanians should not pay too much attention knowing this fact.

. The “monkey” word is used in general as well. It was used even during communism. Any social scientist reading this blog, do your thesis on the Albanians. 2 states, 4 occupied territories. It is the only social experiment of this scale in the world.
Ps. I was once asked why there are no black people in Albania (racism in mind)? The answer is, Albania is a poor country. The chinese that live there ran out of money on the way to Italy.

Albania is a small place where everyone knows everyone in the town. A new face from a different city gets attention, imagine someone from a different race.
People in Albania do not move much. Anything different is exciting. But isn’t this the case for any country?
I do think you are being too harsh. I know of very different cases where foreigners were treated very well (by albanian standarts, of course… because every people has its own definition of respect and care). The neighbors of the family she was visiting would even prepare a special dish and give it to her to try, or even invite her for diner.
the word “zezak” may seem harsh, but that’s the only word albanians… the same with “kinez,” which simply means “chinese” and there is no negative connotation implied.

We Albanians had a lot of problems with Blacks in NY and Michigan, in Lincoln High School blacks were biting up Albanians one by one and they were ganging them up cause Albanians were carry their national flag and they claimed it was blood colors and they didn’t care, when Albanians formed their gang and they were only 200 students in the whole 4500 black and Hispanic students they took and bit the hell up to anybody and taught them the lesson.
